Increased Budget Helps State Crime Lab

A budget increase of almost a million dollars has enabled the State Crime Lab to process more cases and decrease its backlog.
There was a 26 percent increase in the number of reports issued in 2006, compared to 2005. Also, 22 people have been added to the Crime Lab's staff -- but eight positions are still vacant. The lab usually has about 6,000 active requests, and produces about 15-hundred reports a month.
