Between raising two kids and running a household, Jennifer Polk also operates a unique cleaning service. Her company cleans up after homicides, suicides or natural deaths.
"The part that I have the hardest time with is when somebody was not discovered immediately and they've been there for a period of time and nature is already at work solving the problem," says Polk.
Tools of the trade go everywhere Polk goes.
"We have to make sure we have these," she says pointing out a biohazard box. "All of the human biohazard has to be packed in one of these. Full face respirator with charcoal cartridges to filter out the smell."
Polk's line of work is both physical and emotional.
"After I talk to the family and do the initial consultation, I try to turn the switch off right there."
What do her kids think of their crime scene mom?
"They'll get in the car and ahhh where have you been? It's not always pleasant, but I find it rewarding work."
Keeping a sense of humor is what helps her clients and Jennifer through some pretty tough situations.
"It's the last bit of dignity that I can give to anybody who either took their own life, or who's life was taken."
