Call it shades of CSI Salt Lake City. Police and others gather today to learn more about forensic science and the law.
Forensic Scientist Karen Elliott is talking about fingerprints. "It's certainly being challenged a lot more," she says.
Elliott and her group, The Utah International Association for Identification are holding a convention telling police and others how to fight those challenges. She says the technology has gotten better.
"Now we have a database where we can actually input a latent print from a crime scene," she said. And since it's on computers, it becomes more reliable. "Makes for a little bit clearer imprint now."
The convention runs through Thursday.
